About Albion Basin

Albion Basin

Albion Basin is a picturesque natural area located at the top of Little Cottonwood Canyon, near the town of Alta, Utah. It is part of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest and is celebrated for its breathtaking displays of wildflowers that bloom during the summer months. The basin sits at an elevation of approximately 9,500 feet, providing a stunning alpine backdrop for outdoor enthusiasts. Historically, the area was used for mining operations in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, but it has since been reclaimed by nature and transformed into a popular recreation spot. Visitors can explore extensive trail systems that offer opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and photography. Wildlife such as moose, deer, and numerous bird species are commonly spotted in the area. Albion Basin also serves as a point of access to higher elevation trails, including those leading to the stunning Cecret Lake.
